1. FC Saarbrücken has defeated Borussia Mönchengladbach in the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup. The fairytale of the third division club continues! After Bayern and Eintracht Frankfurt, Mönchengladbach became the third Bundesliga team to be eliminated. Second-division Kaiserslautern now awaits in the semi-finals.

After successes against Bayern Munich and Eintracht Frankfurt, the underdogs won 2:1 (1:1) against the next Bundesliga club in the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup on Tuesday. Kai Brünker scored the decisive goal in the third minute of stoppage time against Gladbach, who were superior on the pitch. Saarbrücken will face 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the semi-final on April 2.

ÖFB team player Stefan Lainer came on for the losers from the 82nd minute. Maximilian Wöber was not in the squad due to a muscle strain. The rematch of the game canceled at the beginning of February due to heavy rainfall turned into a water battle on poor turf.

Although the visitors had significantly more possession, the favorites failed to create any major chances and suffered the decisive blow in the closing stages.

Saarbrücken's next opponents Kaiserslautern had prevailed in their second division clash with Hertha Berlin. Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Fortuna Düsseldorf will face each other in the other semi-final.
