The sparks flew
Fighting scenes after Ronaldo’s CL exit with al-Nassr
Cristiano Ronaldo and his club al-Nassr have been dramatically eliminated from the Asian Champions League. The club from Riyadh had to concede defeat in the quarter-final second leg in a penalty shoot-out. Emotions ran high after the final whistle ...
With al-Nassr leading 4:3 against Al-Ain after 120 minutes (Al-Ain won the first leg 1:0), the game had to be decided in a penalty shoot-out. Ronaldo, who had already scored from the spot in extra time, also converted his second attempt, but his colleagues Marcelo Brozovic, Alex Telles and Otavio were denied by keeper Khalid Eisa.
The players then took their frustration out on their opponents, with videos on the internet showing packs forming on the pitch and professionals and supporters going at each other.
Ronaldo without a title?
The Champions League exit threatens Ronaldo with a title-less season. In the league, al-Nassr are now twelve points behind leaders Al-Hilal. At least the Portuguese still has a chance of lifting a trophy in the King's Cup of Champions.
