Floods in France: dead body recovered

A total of four people have died in severe storms in south-eastern France. One body was found on Monday morning. The deceased could be the father of a family who has been missing since Saturday. There is no trace of his two children.

The reason for the storm was the low pressure system "Monica", which caused heavy rainfall and flooding at the weekend. In Nice, the rain caused a landslide.

Severe weather warning, threat of avalanches in the Alps
A severe weather warning remained in place in several regions on Monday, with the threat of avalanches in some parts of the Alps. Several thousand households north of Nice in the border region with Italy were temporarily without power at the weekend.

Cars swept away by floods
The authorities reported three deaths on Sunday. Two people had been found in a car. The third victim was swept away by the flood in his off-road vehicle in Gagnières, also near Avignon, early on Saturday evening. The man had wanted to cross a bridge - which was already closed - in the car, reported "Le Figaro". Another occupant was able to save himself. Seven people had previously been reported missing.
