Fire alarm on Sunday morning in Telfs, Tyrol (Innsbruck-Land district)! An intoxicated 34-year-old man had obviously forgotten food on the stove and left it on fire. He was discovered lying on the floor in the completely smoke-filled apartment, but then refused to be taken outside by the fire department. Instead, he insulted the emergency services.

The sirens sounded in Telfs at around 9 am. Passers-by had raised the alarm and reported that a strong smell of burning was coming from an apartment. The man, who lived in a rented flat, was reported under administrative law. A strong smell of burning had previously been reported to the police. When the officers arrived, the Telfs fire department was already on the scene.

Window smashed
The Telfs fire department was already on the scene when the officers arrived. "It could be seen through the window of the ground-floor apartment that the apartment was very smoky and a person was lying on the floor, which is why the firefighters smashed a window pane and entered the apartment with heavy breathing protection," said the police.

Report for tenants
The reason for the smoke was found to be burnt food on the stove. The firefighters ventilated the apartment. However, the 34-year-old tenant of the apartment, who was apparently drunk, refused to let the firefighters take him out of the apartment and into medical care. "He also refused medical treatment and insulted the emergency services," said the investigators. The man will now face criminal charges. The damaged window was provisionally sealed by the fire department.
