After rockfall: lakeside road on Lake Garda closed

A shoreline road on Lake Garda is blocked after a massive rockfall. Several huge boulders crashed onto the road between Riva del Garda and Limone on Saturday night. Fortunately, no one was on the road at the time. 

Only a few cars parked at the side of the road were hit and damaged by boulders. An adjacent house was evacuated as a precaution.

Civil protection carried out a local inspection by helicopter on Saturday. As a result, the road was temporarily closed. It is not yet clear how long it will remain closed. Work on the road will begin on Monday. A specialist company has been commissioned to blast the rocks and clear the slope and roadway.
