"Not a leader"
Rooney lashes out at Man United striker Rashford
Sharp criticism of Manchester United's Marcus Rashford from club legend Wayne Rooney. "I don't think he's a leader," the 38-year-old told TNT Sports.
"I hope he makes it because he's a Manchester lad. But he needs more consistency, he's not playing his best season," Rooney shared his opinion. Does he have any sympathy for Rashford? "Not much, if I'm honest."
Manchester United are having a mixed season this year; the Red Devils are currently sixth in the Premier League and outside the European places, while they finished bottom of the Champions League at the group stage.
Captains have a duty
According to Rooney, the 26-year-old striker is one of the main reasons for the traditional English club's disappointing results. "I don't think he's a leader and sometimes his body language isn't the best. I look at Casemiro, Varane and Fernandes, as captain they should get that out of Marcus," the 183-time United goalscorer challenged Rashford's team-mates to shake up the England international. In general, Rooney would not begrudge him his success, but he would like to see more stability from the attacking pro. The next opportunity for Rashford to prove the club icon wrong will come next Sunday, when the Red Devils face Liverpool FC in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
