Would you like two statistics titbits for Super Election Sunday? The "Krone" knows Salzburg's youngest and oldest municipality - the results are surprising. . . 

Guessing allowed! Salzburg's youngest municipality is located in Pongau, has 1037 inhabitants, 1950 guest beds and offers its guests 26 kilometers of cross-country ski trails and a ski area. . . Any ideas yet? 

According to provincial statistics, most young people live in tranquil Werfenweng . The municipality has an average age of 39.1 years - the absolute top figure in the entire province! 

Salzburg's "oldest municipality", on the other hand, is located in Lungau. According to state statistics, the residents of Mauterndorf have an average age of 47.3 years. Significantly, almost 30 percent of all residents are at least 65 years old.

Lungau is the only district in Salzburg where there will be fewer people in the next 20 years. "The population has been shrinking since 1995," says Gernot Filipp, head of regional statistics. And this cannot be stopped: "Even if every woman has three or four children, there are already too few women overall for an increase in births to have an impact on the population."
