Dornbirn sink deeper and deeper into the cellar

Only the home side were allowed to celebrate in the Südstadt.

One goal conceded at Admira was enough for coach Roman Ellensohn's team to lose 1-0. Striker Renan was in the starting eleven for the first time, but had to come off after 40 minutes. To make matters worse, captain Willy Rodrigues also tweaked his thigh.

The striker, who had been convalescing for a long time, had only trained with the team for two weeks, but yesterday at Admira the Brazilian was in the starting eleven for the first time since he left Dornbirn for South Korea in the fall of 2022 and returned this winter. Renan was substituted shortly before the break, but this was planned by the coaching staff. "He can't play any longer at the moment," explained sporting director Eric Orie, "he felt good after his first outing since the injury."

But Renan didn't bring the Red Roses any luck either. In Südstadt, the team from Dornbirn had to leave the pitch as losers for the eleventh time in a row. Roman Ellensohn's team, who had to watch from the stands due to his suspension from the Lafnitz game and was replaced on the sidelines by assistant coach Murad Gerdi, held their own again and created chances.

A free-kick from Lars Nussbaumer missed the corner of the net and Ramon Tanque tipped the ball onto the crossbar instead of into the net. "But that doesn't help us. We can't get any results over time. It's always something," said an annoyed Orie. Because in the 68th minute, Admiran David Puczka scored from a free-kick, not quite unstoppable for FCD goalkeeper Jakob Odenahl.

In the final phase, Noa Mathis had the chance to equalize, but took too long in the penalty area and was blocked. To make matters worse, captain Willy Rodrigues had to leave the pitch with a thigh problem. "I hope it's not worse for him," said Orie.
