Syrian arrested
Major fire in Liezen: it was arson!
The devastating fire on Ausseer Straße in Liezen was caused by arson. This is the result of an investigation by the criminal investigation department. Two Syrians (18, 39) are suspected of having set the fire. The public prosecutor's office in Leoben ordered the arrest of the asylum seekers.
On Tuesday night, at around 1 a.m., a large fire broke out on the ground floor of a residential and commercial building in the old town of Liezen. When the firefighters arrived, high flames were already shooting up from the business premises along the façade to the adjacent apartments. 20 people had to be evacuated from their apartments and the fire departments were deployed for hours.
The criminal investigation has now led to the former owner and his successor of a commercial enterprise housed in the multi-party building. The two Syrians (18 and 39) living in Upper Austria were arrested at their home addresses on the same day. They are suspected of having torched the house!
Arrested in Upper Austria
Police officers from the Mondsee police station (Upper Austria) arrested the two suspects at their home addresses in the Vöcklabruck district. Police officers from the districts of Liezen and Vöcklabruck (Upper Austria) carried out a house search by order of the public prosecutor's office in Leoben. Both suspects are being held in Leoben prison. So far they have not given any information about the motive.
