Former Manchester United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has spoken about signing Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer of 2021 and his collaboration with the Portuguese. There were certainly complications. Ronaldo even had an "order" for his coach.

Solskjaer now revealed in a podcast why Cristiano Ronaldo returned to Manchester United. "Part of signing Cristiano Ronaldo was to get that passion from him. But that had its complications," said the Norwegian.

However, the Englishman's game had to be adapted for the Portuguese, as Solskjaer reveals: "Cristiano is different to Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood or Marcus Rashford. Cavani suffered the most when Cristiano arrived, he had already understood a certain way of playing."

An "order" for the coach
However, it was hoped that the players could learn from the five-time world footballer. "After all, he is the most disciplined and best player in the world," said the former United coach. A plan that did not work out. Ronaldo became estranged from the team and the entire club. In the end, he left the Premier League for Saudi Arabia.

Solskjaer also had a special anecdote to share: "When he came to the club, he told me to let him play three games in a row and then substitute him in the fourth game. But he's so passionate that he didn't like it when I actually did that."
