Spaniards report:
This is why there was a rift between Ramos and Real
Sergio Ramos spent 16 years on the pitch for Real Madrid, leading the Whites to a number of titles, before surprisingly moving to Paris Saint-Germain in 2021. The Spanish newspaper "Revelo" claims to know the reason for his sudden departure from the Spanish capital.
According to a report in the newspaper, there had already been a row between Ramos and club president Florentino Perez two years earlier. After the surprising quarter-final exit in the Champions League against Ajax Amsterdam, the 76-year-old is said to have accused the team of "embarrassing behavior" in the dressing room before the captain criticized the squad planning and the choice of coach.
"Gave everything"
It is said that Perez then swore to Ramos that he would get rid of him. The reaction of the now 37-year-old? "Perfect. You pay me and I leave. I've given everything and sacrificed myself for this crest, for this club and even for you!"
In the years that followed, the two would have put on a good face before Ramos packed his bags and joined Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2021. The Spaniard has since signed for Sevilla FC, where he now regularly faces Real Madrid in La Liga.
