Boris Nadezhdin's complaint against the Central Election Commission has been rejected by the Supreme Court. The Putin opponent will therefore probably not be on the ballot next to the Kremlin leader in mid-March. However, the Russian does not want to give up.

Following his rebuff, Nadezhdin declared: "I won't stop. I will fight to the end". The outspoken opponent of the war will first appeal the decision to the Presidium of the Supreme Court and then to the Constitutional Court.

Alleged shortcomings led to exclusion
Nadezhdin had already been given little chance of standing against incumbent Vladimir Putin in the run-up to the election. At the beginning of February, the electoral commission declared that it had discovered shortcomings in the signature lists required for a candidacy.

Putin's election victory is considered certain. However, Nadezhdin surprised some observers with his harsh public criticism of the war against Ukraine, which the Russian leadership described as a special military operation. According to his own statements, he collected double the required 100,000 signatures of support, although he was still only allowed to submit 105,000 for verification.
