Lake Constance water level currently unusually high

The current water level of Lake Constance is unusually high for the time of year. The reasons for this have to do with the weather. 

The level of the "Swabian Sea" is currently above average for this time of year. On Monday, it was 335 centimetres, while the average value for that day was 288, 47 centimetres lower.

Climate change
However, the current water level is not a record. This is 368 centimeters. The reasons for the high water levels can be found in the above-average rainfall of the recent past. In addition, the snowmelt has started much earlier than usual due to the high temperatures.

It can be assumed that the winter water levels will also generally rise in the coming years - a consequence of climate change.
