1:1 at Rapid Vienna
Austria Lustenau came close to a sensation
With one man more and Ben Bobzien's opening goal, victory in Hütteldorf was within reach, but in the end Austria Lustenau earned a deserved point at Rapid. Nevertheless, there was a bitter drop of bitterness: relegation rivals WSG Tirol won 1:0 against Hartberg.
Andy Heraf sent only three players from the starting eleven in Salzburg into the match against Rapid. The Lustenau coach gave his team a major shake-up before the relegation battle really gets underway. And indeed, Austria showed a completely different face at the Allianz Stadium. The visitors were highly focused from the very first minute.
Rapid hardly found any means against Heraf's team. The early exclusion of Rapid's Kongolo (34'), who was yellow-carded twice, also worked to the advantage of the team bottom of the table. It was already the third exclusion in the seventh championship match for the Dutchman.
And the visitors actually seemed to take advantage of the moment. After a long clearance from Schierl, Bobzien (50) ran away from his defender and fired the ball into the net to take the lead. The sensation was within reach. Rapid rebelled, Grabher fended off a shot in front of the line with his arm (74') and was shown red. Grüll converted, Schierl (86) saved the point with a brilliant save.
