“Very regrettable!” Rapid loses sponsor
Things remain turbulent at Rapid. As the record champions confirmed on Saturday in response to a "Krone" inquiry, a sponsor is quitting. Car partner MVC Motors "contacted the club on Friday afternoon and was told by them that the cooperation would be terminated prematurely due to the events following the 342nd Vienna derby".
The step is "very regrettable, especially due to the fact that an appointment is scheduled in the coming days regarding a change in the cooperation with regard to the increased use of vehicles with sustainable technology and the presentation of the measures initiated by SK Rapid to deal with the misconduct that will be heard by the Criminal Senate of the Austrian Bundesliga on Monday," explain the Hütteldorfer. Nevertheless, club officials will "continue to seek talks with the decision-makers at MVC Motors".
Sponsor distanced itself
MVC Motors had already distanced itself from the incidents after the derby on Facebook a few days ago. "The inappropriate comments made by some Rapid representatives contradict our corporate values," it said. However, there was still no talk of a withdrawal.
"Welcome" occasion?
On Saturday, it became official: the contract, originally scheduled to run until 2025, was terminated. Unofficially, there is talk that MVC Motors would have wanted to end its sponsorship of Rapid anyway - and that the verbal derailments after the derby were a "welcome" occasion.
