"Deprived of the reward"
“Played headless”: Tuchel annoyed with Bayern
Thomas Tuchel has expressed his anger following another setback in Bayern's title fight. The draw against Freiburg was the result of his players' indiscipline. Leverkusen can now move ten points clear with a win in Cologne on Sunday.
"I don't think it was down to willpower, but we played with our heads down for the first half hour and were punished for it," Tuchel ranted in the "DAZN" interview after the disappointing 2:2 draw against Freiburg. That's why his team deservedly fell behind.
However, his team showed a good reaction afterwards. In the second half, the coach saw a good performance from his Bavarians - but in the end, they had again robbed themselves of the reward for their work. Lucas Höler equalized in the 88th minute after an assist from ÖFB team striker Michael Gregoritsch.
Champions League on Tuesday
"I don't think it was down to willpower. It was undisciplined in the positions, it was hara-kiri at times. We had phases where our central defender overran the full-back," said an annoyed Tuchel.
The next setback for the record champions after the narrow win against Leipzig. A new reaction must now follow quickly. The important second leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Lazio Rome follows on Tuesday.
