In Upper Austria
22 new leap year babies were born this year
They don't actually celebrate their first birthday until 2028, but they were born on a very special day. This year's leap year gave us another February 29, and numerous babies throughout Upper Austria "took advantage" of this day to be born. Only in Schärding did things remain quiet.
While there are New Year babies every year, leap year babies are of course much "rarer", they only occur every four years. This year it was that time again and numerous new arrivals were welcomed in the clinics of OÖ Gesundheitsholding on February 29.
Linz as a "hotspot"
22 babies were counted. Eleven of them were born at the Kepler University Hospital in Linz alone. At the Pyhrn-Eisenwurzen Clinic (PEK), there were a total of three leap day births. Little Amina was born in Steyr - she was the only one on this day. Two children were born in Kirchdorf.
Eva was welcomed in Freistadt
A total of four babies were born at the Salzkammergut Clinic. In Freistadt, little Eva (see picture) was the only leap year baby. Three babies were born in Rohrbach. In contrast to Schärding, where there was not a single birth.
