Drunk driver crashes into van: hit and run

Spectacular accident on the Tauern highway near Villach: After a van driver braked hard, a following drunk driver crashed into the vehicle with full force. The car overturned and the van driver fled on foot. Manhunt! 

For no apparent reason, the driver of a Polish van suddenly slammed on the brakes on the Ossiachersee slip road in the direction of the Villach junction on Thursday evening and then changed lanes. This took a following driver completely by surprise - he was unable to react and crashed into the van without braking.

As a result, the car overturned due to the force of the impact and came to rest on its roof. While the 52-year-old driver from the Villach district escaped with a shock, his co-driver was taken to hospital with injuries of indeterminate severity. Nevertheless, there were consequences for the driver: The alcohol test was positive and his driver's license is now gone.

Fleeing on foot
The driver of the Polish van didn't even notice any of this: He had parked his van on the hard shoulder after the collision and fled on foot. A manhunt was immediately launched - but so far without success.
