3:1 against Man United
Derby LIVE: ManCity vs ManUnited from 4.30pm
Manchester City are keeping pace with league leaders Liverpool in the English soccer championship. Coach Pep Guardiola's team won the derby against United 3:1 on Sunday, turning around a 0:1 deficit at the break. Phil Foden scored a brace (56', 80') and Erling Haaland (91') to secure three important points for the champions, Marcus Rashford having previously put the Red Devils ahead (8'). City thus remain one point behind Liverpool in second place.
Guardiola's side took command in front of their home crowd, but the visitors took the lead. Coach Erik ten Hag's side countered effectively and Rushford smashed the ball under the woodwork from distance to make it 1-0. City then missed numerous chances to equalize. Foden (19) and Rodri (33) failed to beat keeper Andre Onana, while Haaland showed nerves of steel and shot over the empty goal from two or three meters (45).
Foden double pack
After the break, it was Foden who first equalized with a powerful left-footed shot into the corner of the net and then finished off a one-two with Julian Alvarez to make it 2:1. Ex-Salzburg man Haaland finally sealed the deal in stoppage time. City now travel to Liverpool for the Premier League clash at Anfield Road in the next round with a broad chest and 19 games without defeat.
On Monday, Arsenal can close the gap on the Reds to two points with a win at bottom-of-the-league Sheffield United. United remain well behind in sixth, six points adrift of fifth-placed Tottenham.
