Horner exonerated: “War is not over yet”

Formula 1 team boss Christian Horner can breathe a sigh of relief for the time being following an internal investigation at Red Bull. The allegations made against him by an employee have been rejected by the company. Nevertheless, a bitter aftertaste remains. The French newspaper "L'Équipe" ran the headline on Thursday: "Horner exonerated, but the war is not over yet".

The newspaper refers to a possible appeal by the employee in the Red Bull compliance process and to the balance of power within the company.

The Horner case could become a crucial test. The Briton is said to enjoy the trust of the Thai Yoovidhya family, which holds a 51 percent majority stake in Red Bull. The remaining 49 percent is owned by the Mateschitz family, in the person of Didi Mateschitz's son Mark, who would be happier if Horner were sacked.

What is certain is that the investigation report (the contents of which Red Bull is not publishing) represents a stage victory for Horner. However, it remains to be seen whether he will survive as team boss of Red Bull Racing in the medium and long term.

"Happy and relieved"
Horner in an initial statement to Sky UK in Bahrain: "I'm just glad that the process is over. Obviously I can't comment on it. We are here to concentrate fully on the Grand Prix and the coming season and to defend our two titles."

And: "The process is over. I'm delighted to be here in Bahrain and to be concentrating on the season with the team. The team has never been as strong as it is now."

Schumacher: "There has been quite a lot of fighting"
"The problem here is that you almost had the impression that some people internally were interested in getting rid of Horner," said Formula 1 expert Ralf Schumacher on Sky. "There has been quite a lot of fighting and now the question is whether this is really the case and whether he will succeed in maintaining his position and whether he has the support of the whole team."

It will be interesting to see how things develop at the world champion racing team in the coming weeks and months.
