“Future rockfall not ruled out”
An unpredictable rockfall caused a stir near Abtenau on Sunday evening when a ten-tonne boulder hit the B162 Lammertaler Bundesstraße on the Voglauberg - two people were injured. In daylight, a further assessment of the damage site was carried out to discuss possible protective measures.
The B162 can now be driven on again without restriction from both directions after the boulder was removed and the broken rockfall protection was temporarily secured with concrete protection walls.
State geologist Ludwig Fegerl took another look at the accident site in daylight and concluded: "There is currently no longer any acute danger, but a future demolition cannot be ruled out. The next step will therefore be to discuss additional protective measures in consultation with the landowner. Several options are being examined."
