Woman in Vienna stalked by ex-partner for weeks

A 42-year-old woman is said to have been stalked by her ex-partner for weeks. When he ambushed her again on Saturday evening and tried to get to her via her balcony, the frightened woman called the emergency services.

A 42-year-old woman in Vienna is said to have been persistently stalked by her ex-partner for weeks. On Saturday evening, the 53-year-old then climbed over a fence into a garden in Floridsdorf to get to the woman's balcony. However, he was discovered and held by friends of the 42-year-old until the police arrived, police spokesman Philipp Haßlinger reported on Sunday.

Ambushed and pursued
"The 53-year-old is suspected of having ambushed the victim every day for more than three weeks and persistently stalked her," the spokesman said. The Austrian citizen was banned from entering and approaching the victim and was released after consultation with the Vienna public prosecutor's office.

Further operation: man became violent
An operation in an apartment in Brigittenau also ended with an entry and approach ban, but the suspect (54) was in police custody on Sunday. The police had been called because of an argument. It then emerged that the man had threatened his partner and had allegedly become violent towards her. The Romanian, who was heavily intoxicated, also tried to attack the officers, which led to him being charged with attempted resistance to public authority.
