On Wednesday, the Tyrolean provincial government issued a shooting order for a high-risk wolf in Fieberbrunn (Kitzbühel district) after a deer cow was found in a residential area at the weekend.

The shooting order comes into force at midnight and is valid for a period of eight weeks. The hunters concerned have already been informed, according to the province of Tyrol.

Wolf photographed in residential area
The carcass of the doe was discovered at the weekend in the immediate vicinity of a residential building in Fieberbrunn. "There is concrete suspicion of a wolf due to the pattern of cracks. In addition, a wolf has been spotted and photographed twice in residential areas in the municipality of Fieberbrunn. This means that the legal requirements for shooting a high-risk wolf are met," it continues.

Wolf from the Italian population?
In January of this year, a wolf from the Italian population had already been identified in Söll and Kirchdorf on the basis of red deer carcasses. It is not known whether this is the same animal.

In 2023, a total of at least 26 different wolves were genetically confirmed in Tyrol. Compared to 2022, this corresponds to an increase of one third, the province concluded.
