An employee at a butcher's store in Burgenland was definitely not a vegan and had probably been stealing goods for several years. Now she has been caught red-handed.

The suspect certainly had good taste: the woman had been employed by one of Burgenland's top butchers. It has more than 150 different meat and sausage products in its range. The high quality of the goods had apparently also appealed to the employee. She helped herself to the meat without permission and simply took it away.

Caught in the act
She was able to do this because she had been working as an order picker in Bernstein. But now she could be stopped. Just as she was about to put another "delivery" into her car, she was caught. Due to the clear evidence, the excuses did not help.

Theft over a period of years
The investigation is now looking into how long the "hard-working" employee had been taking meat. It is suspected that the criminal practice could have been going on for several years - which would correspond to several tons of meat and damage amounting to tens of thousands of euros.

Perpetrator showed remorse
It is not yet known what the Hungarian woman did with the stolen meat. She probably sold it in her home country. After she was caught, she showed remorse: she apologized for her actions.
