Rendi-Wagner could soon have a new job
Former SPÖ leader and doctor Pamela Rendi-Wagner could soon have a new job. Together with three other people, she is on the shortlist to become the head of an EU health authority.
The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) is based in Stockholm. The shortlist was drawn up by the EU Commission. To become Director, Rendi-Wagner needs a two-thirds majority on the authority's Management Board. It was announced at the beginning of January that the former politician was applying for the post.
The job was advertised in December 2023.
"Together with the Ministry of Health, we naturally support Rendi-Wagner's candidacy. As a former health minister and ECDC board member, as well as due to her relevant medical training, she is excellently suited for this role," the Foreign Ministry said at the time.
Decision to be made next week
The decision on who will be appointed to the position is to be made in the middle of next week. The ECDC was founded in 2004 and has been headed by German doctor Andrea Ammon since 2017. She will leave this post in mid-June 2024.
