Firecracker exploded in boy’s hand: fingers severed
A twelve-year-old boy in Carinthia suffered serious injuries on Wednesday. A homemade explosive device exploded in his hand. According to initial information, several fingers were severed.
The twelve-year-old made an explosive device from several category F1 fireworks, which he wanted to blow up in the adjacent garden of the house in Großkirchheim in the district of Spittal. "For reasons as yet unknown, this explosive device detonated in his hand," is how the police describe the accident.

The child sustained extremely serious injuries to his left hand. According to initial information, several fingers were severed. He immediately ran back to his mother in the house, whereupon she alerted the emergency services and the boy was flown to the accident hospital by the C7 rescue helicopter after receiving initial treatment from an emergency doctor.
