Swedish amusement park on fire since Monday
Firefighters in Sweden battled a fire at Gothenburg's Liseberg amusement park for the third day in a row on Wednesday.
According to the fire department, the extinguishing work was difficult because the affected structure was in danger of collapsing. "There is a fire in the load-bearing walls of the building and we cannot get into individual parts of the building due to an increased risk of collapse," said the fire department. The fire in Sweden's largest amusement park broke out on Monday.
One person has been missing since then. The fire, which had previously been brought under control, flared up again on Tuesday evening. The fire department was unable to predict on Wednesday how long the extinguishing work would take due to the risk of collapse.
Huge black cloud of smoke over the city
According to the park operator, the fire had apparently broken out in the outdoor area of the new Oceana Waterworld attraction, which is still under construction. The flames were several meters high, explosions destroyed a water slide and a huge black cloud of smoke hung over the town. The fire then ate its way through the entire building. According to the police, 16 people were slightly injured.
The water park is part of an extension to the theme park, which was due to open this year. According to the police, they have launched an investigation into gross negligence and breaches of health and safety regulations.
