Peruvian woman cut off sleeping partner’s penis

Brutal end to a couple's quarrel shortly before Valentine's Day: The authorities in Peru are investigating a woman who allegedly cut off her partner's penis with a kitchen knife while he was asleep.

The man suffered a "traumatic amputation", received medical treatment and is receiving psychiatric care, the AFP news agency learned from medical circles on Tuesday.

Perpetrator was not arrested
The 39-year-old woman was not arrested because she had to look after the couple's three-month-old child, the local public prosecutor's office explained. The results of the expert reports were awaited to determine the motive and circumstances.

Local media reported, citing the police, that the 39-year-old had argued with her partner at the weekend after he had come home drunk. She believed he had been unfaithful to her. After the argument, the man fell asleep, whereupon the woman grabbed a kitchen knife and cut off her partner's penis. "We are shocked, we want justice," the man's uncle told local media.

From porn star to priest
The crime is reminiscent of the infamous case of John Wayne Bobbitt from 1993 in the USA, whose wife Lorena cut off his penis while he was sleeping. According to her, he had previously raped her. Bobbitt's penis was sewn back on. He later became a porn actor and then a priest.
