German faces 7 years in prison for THC gummy bears
A German citizen was arrested at St. Petersburg airport on Tuesday because Russian customs officers found six gummy bears containing THC in his luggage when he entered the country. The 38-year-old is now facing up to seven years in prison.
According to the Russian authorities, the man wanted to travel through Russia and meet up with an acquaintance he had been corresponding with on the internet. He had bought the gummy bears in a specialty store in Germany. He said that they helped him to sleep better on long journeys.
The German, who had flown from Hamburg via Istanbul to St. Petersburg, stated that he had never had any problems with them at customs in other countries.
