Cancer-stricken King Charles appears in public
King Charles III (75) has appeared smiling in public at a church visit six days after his cancer diagnosis was announced. Together with his wife, Queen Camilla (76), the British monarch attended a service at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham in the eastern English county of Norfolk on Sunday. He wore a brown coat and held an umbrella in his hand as he waved briefly to onlookers.
Earlier on Saturday evening, Charles had addressed the public directly for the first time since his cancer diagnosis, thanking them for their support over the past few days. Buckingham Palace announced on Monday that the King had been diagnosed with cancer. Charles has now started regular treatment. The palace did not say exactly what type of cancer it was.
On Tuesday, Charles was seen in public for the first time since the diagnosis when he and Camilla left their London residence Clarence House in a car after a brief meeting with his younger son Prince Harry (39). According to reports, Charles and Camila had traveled to the Sandringham country estate the same day.
