Crash on a ski slope: Holidaymaker loses consciousness

Devastating winter sports accident on Saturday in the Tyrolean Ötztal: a 60-year-old skier from Germany collided with a friend in Sölden and fell. He lost consciousness and suffered several broken ribs in the crash.

The accident happened on the Gaislachkogel. The 60-year-old was part of an eight-person group from Germany and was skiing downhill on blue piste number 8 when he collided with another group member (51).

To hospital by emergency helicopter
Both men fell. "The 60-year-old lost consciousness as a result of the collision. He was first treated on site by the piste rescue team. The alerted crew of the emergency helicopter continued the emergency medical treatment and finally flew the man to Zams hospital," reported the police.

Several broken ribs and a concussion were diagnosed at the hospital. The second skier involved remained uninjured.
