Dung on the road: farmers’ protest case for police

Police in Bavaria are investigating people who dumped hay bales and piles of manure on roads early on Thursday morning, blocking traffic routes. The actions could presumably be attributed to some farmers, the police announced on Thursday.

 According to the Würzburg criminal investigation department, they are investigating on suspicion of dangerous interference with road traffic and possible environmental crimes.

Manure and slurry on the roads
Previously, farmers had called for protests against government offices and authorities throughout Germany. In particular, manure and slurry was to be dumped. In Lower Franconia, the entrances and exits of traffic circles on the B13 were blocked so that it was no longer possible to get through.

The access roads to the B19 were also obstructed in several places by piles of manure and bales of straw. Unknown persons had set fire to a truck tire on the B303. Fire departments and road maintenance services had cleared the lanes again.

"We are lucky that no one was injured"
The police have issued an urgent warning against acting in a way that endangers traffic. "I say clearly and unequivocally: anyone who creates obstacles on roads where high speeds are sometimes permitted, thereby endangering others, is clearly going too far! We are lucky that no one has been injured," said Lower Franconian police chief Detlev Tolle according to the press release.
