The biggest star of the 67th Opera Ball on Thursday was Johann Strauss. Almost the entire opening of the evening was dedicated to the 200th birthday of the legendary waltz king. 

One man in particular was missing from the ball: master builder Richard Lugner, who died in the summer. His appearances with international star guests had helped shape the Opera Ball over the years. This year, street artist and DJ Alec Monopoly was a guest in the Lugner City box. A seat was symbolically kept free for Lugner.
