31-year-old hit by truck on the hard shoulder

Due to a flat tire, a 31-year-old man drove his car onto the emergency lane of the Innkreis freeway near Andrichsfurt on Tuesday evening. In the darkness, a truck driver probably overlooked the driver, who was not wearing a high-visibility vest. The 31-year-old was knocked down and thrown several meters away.

At around 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening, a 31-year-old Bulgarian stopped his car on the hard shoulder of the A8 Innkreisautobahn near Andrichsfurt because the left front tire was defective. The driver left his vehicle, four compatriots (20, 22, 30 and 48 years old) who were traveling with him remained seated.

Knocked down by articulated vehicle
At the same time, a 59-year-old Slovakian drove his articulated vehicle past the vehicle standing on the hard shoulder. He veered slightly to the right, first hitting the car and then the 31-year-old, who was thrown several meters away and left seriously injured on the hard shoulder. The four Bulgarians sitting in the car were uninjured.

Seriously injured
An uninvolved driver immediately gave the 31-year-old first aid until the emergency services arrived. The Bulgarian was first taken to Ried Hospital by the emergency doctor, but was transferred to Linz that night due to his serious injuries.

No breakdown triangle set up
He was not wearing a high-visibility vest at the time of the accident and had parked the car with the hazard warning lights on, but without a breakdown triangle. The Ort and Antiesenhofen fire departments were deployed with four vehicles.
