Investigation still ongoing after wild pursuit

The speeding driver from Traun is in custody, the investigation into multiple attempted murders is ongoing. The man from Kematen/Innbach is free. The police are still investigating last Sunday's mad dash, after which a report will be submitted to the public prosecutor's office.

The routine check of an 18-year-old on the A8 just 400 meters before the Ried/I. exit ended last Sunday with a 27-kilometre chase. Nine days earlier, a 20-year-old Hungarian caused a similar incident in Traun. The young extreme racer is now in custody.

Multiple attempted murders
The public prosecutor's office in Wels has extended the investigation in this case to multiple attempted murders. "There were at least five specific situations involving 20 vehicles whose occupants were at risk," says Christoph Weber, spokesman for the Wels public prosecutor's office. If he is charged, the speeding driver faces up to 20 years in prison.

File still being processed
Does the 18-year-old Lower Austrian also have to prepare for this after his crazy drive through the Inn and Hausruckviertel? "The case is still being processed. After that, a report will be sent to the responsible public prosecutor's office," said the regional police headquarters in response to an inquiry from Krone.

Several offenses
During his 27-kilometre pursuit, the young driver committed several offenses, for example: massive speeding, overtaking on the right, overtaking on the emergency lane, driving without lights and endangering other road users. He was also driving without a valid driver's license, as he had to surrender it just a few weeks ago for speeding.
