Two seriously injured in skidoo accident

A skidoo accident in Saalbach-Hinterglemm resulted in two serious injuries. Mountain rescuers, emergency doctors and a rescue helicopter were deployed to rescue the men from the difficult terrain.

The Saalbach-Hinterglemm mountain rescue team was alerted at around 5 am. The skidoo, which the two employees of a managed hut were using to ski down the slope into the valley, had gone out of control and fallen around 30 meters.

It came to rest in the steep terrain. The seriously injured were transported away with snow groomers and treated in a snow groomer garage. Ten mountain rescuers were deployed to the scene of the accident at around 1600 meters above sea level near the Kohlmaiskabinenbahn cable car. "We were able to drive up with our own quad bike, and the mountain railroads also supported us," explained local station manager Joachim Mitterer.

The presence of emergency doctors in the village was particularly helpful. Due to the Alpine World Ski Championships currently taking place in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, several medics were staying overnight in the region and were able to provide immediate assistance. "They supported us during the operation," says Mitterer.

Rescue with snow groomersand rescue helicopters
The seriously injured men were transported away with snow groomers and initially received medical treatment in a snow groomer garage. The Christophorus 14 and Alpin Heli 6 rescue helicopters then took them to hospital. The Alpine Police and members of the mountain railroads were also involved in the operation. The exact circumstances of the accident are currently being investigated.
