Bauen+Wohnen focuses on wood in all its facets

"Our suppliers are all within a radius of 50 kilometers," says Christoph Quehenberger from the façade specialist All-In-Protect from St. Johann im Pongau. It's not hard to guess: Sustainability is also a top priority this year at Bauen+Wohnen, Western Austria's largest trade fair dedicated to building.

The company sources cement for the insulation from St. Leonhard and wood chips from the sawmill in Hallein. 

A special focus this year is on wood as a building material. Just a few meters away, everything revolves around the coveted raw material: "We offer decking boards. Domestic ash, thermally treated and therefore ideal for outdoor use," explains Christian Hemetsberger from the company mafi Naturholzböden. The processing makes the wood weather-resistant.

Karl Sailer also builds close to nature with his garden architecture and natural pool company. Not only the impressive natural pond at the Bergdorf Priesteregg vacation resort was designed by him: "Even if you only have a small balcony, you've come to the right place," says the garden architect.

The same applies at the trade fair this year: Big new-build dreams often remain a castle in the air. People are therefore focusing on renovating and redesigning existing buildings.
