Toilet instead of flight home – bitter end to the trip

"If you go on a trip, you have a story to tell" - this is the motto of the three-week training camp for beach volleyball sisters Dorina and Ronja Klinger. After perfect training days, there was an inglorious end: in the toilet!

While winter had the country firmly in its grip in Austria, beach volleyball players Dorina and Ronja Klinger were preparing for the new season in Tenerife. "We found excellent conditions in the north for two weeks and held high-quality training sessions with top teams from Switzerland and Italy," said Ronja, who was delighted with both the sessions and the conditions. After all, it was possible to train on two courts that had both the Olympic dimensions and the original Olympic sand. "The sand was flown in specially, everything was perfectly organized," enthused Ronja.

Getting the technical finishing touches
The two strenuous weeks were followed by a week in the south of Tenerife. "It's the main base for European beach teams in winter. There we were able to work intensively on technical and tactical details, sometimes training with male teams."

Trapped in the toilet
Three perfect weeks of training are now behind the beach sisters. Perfect? Not quite. Because the journey home from Spain was a tough one. "Unfortunately, I got food poisoning on the last evening and couldn't leave the next day. I barely got out of the loo or out of bed," Ronja recalls the bitter hour - now with a smile. "Dorina rebooked the flight for me, and a day later I was on my way home." An inglorious end to a perfect training camp!
