Kebab dissuaded man from attempting suicide

An unexpected offer from a passer-by has led to a surprising turnaround in a dramatic situation. A man who wanted to jump off a bridge was stopped by the promise of a kebab.

Police, emergency services and the fire department were called to the incident on Wednesday in Izmir, Turkey - together they tried to dissuade the man from his plan. Despite intensive efforts, the situation initially seemed hopeless.

When hope was already threatening to fade, a passer-by who happened to be there resorted to an unusual strategy: he offered the person a kebab. This unexpected suggestion had an effect. The man decided to step down from the bridge and fortunately abandoned his plan.

According to the authorities, the person was in a stable condition after the incident and was taken to hospital as a precaution. Turkish media reported that this is the 233rd time the man is said to have announced a suicide under various pretexts - the police are now investigating whether there have been similar incidents involving the man in the past.
