Gymnast Carina Kröll hangs up her shoes

Artistic gymnast Carina Kröll has announced her retirement from international competition. Her career has had its ups and downs. However, the 24-year-old will not stay away from gymnastics altogether. 

After an impressive career, which was characterized by successes such as World Cup victories in Cottbus 2016 and Koper 2017 as well as participation in the 2022 European Championships and the 2023 World Championships, the 24-year-old is ending this phase of her life.

In 2022, the German-born athlete switched to the Austrian federation, made possible by a father from Salzburg. At the Austrian Championships in the same year, she immediately won the title. She was then able to call gold in the all-around, uneven bars and beam her own.

Her career was not only characterized by successes, but also by health challenges - after four operations on her shoulder, hip and knee, she fought her way back, but has now decided to take a step back. However, she will remain faithful to gymnastics and will continue to compete in the German national league for her home club TSV Berkheim (D).
