Mr. Biedermann brings arsonists into his home

Director Günther Holllauf is presenting his version of Max Frisch's "Biedermann and the Arsonists" with the Hashtag theater group. This Thursday (7.30 pm), the humorous and satirical play takes to the stage of the Veranstaltungszentrum Klagenfurt for the first time. 

What is going on? What drives people to make irrational decisions? The hair tonic manufacturer Biedermann has just rebelled against all the arsonists, good-for-nothings and thieves, and now they are already standing on his doorstep begging for accommodation with flattering words. Completely taken by surprise and delighted by their own charity, the arsonists are given shelter.

The house is on fire
Even when they drag barrels of petrol into the attic and ask for matches, Biedermann refuses to recognize how dangerous they are. In the end, Biedermann's wife can barely keep her composure, the maid has collapsed - and the house is on fire.

Back in 1958, Swiss author Max Frisch wrote "Biedermann und die Brandstifter", a humorously satirical, sharp-witted grotesque about the eternal human errors and how manipulable we are when it comes to the loss of prosperity.
