Müllauer gives a strong sign of life

This is something to build on: Salzburg biathlete Fabian Müllauer impresses with seventh place in the individual race at the IBU Cup in Brezno-Osrblie, Slovakia. The Salzburg native was particularly impressive at the shooting range. The Norwegians once again dominate at the top.

The 2024/25 World Championship winter has been anything but perfect for Austria's biathletes so far. In the new year, however, they seem to have taken a small step forward.

After Simon Eder and Lisa Hauser impressed with fifth place in the single mixed relay at the World Cup in Oberhof last week, Fabian Müllauer has now also achieved a strong result.

The 21-year-old from Salzburg shone in the individual event of the IBU Cup in Brezno-Osrblie and only made one mistake at the last shooting, which also meant a penalty minute.

The strong skier tried to get everything out of himself on the track and ultimately finished in seventh place, 1:44.6 minutes behind the Norwegian winner Sivert Bakken.

There was no way around the Vikings, who once again had outstanding equipment, with Sverre Aspenes, Isak Frey and Vetle Paulsen finishing in second place.

"I really liked the standing zero (in the first standing shooting, ed.). It went really well today", Müllauer was pleased with his great shooting performance and added: "I hope it continues like this!"

On Friday, the Pinzgau native, who is a member of the Salzburg Olympic squad, has a sprint on the program, followed by the mixed relay on Saturday.
