Graz Airport: more passengers, less cargo

Graz Airport has recorded an increase in passenger numbers in 2024, but a drop in cargo traffic. 819,273 passengers used the airport for business or private travel, an increase of around 86,000. The weak economic situation is making itself felt in the cargo sector.

The increase in passenger numbers (plus 31 percent) was driven by charter traffic, Flughafen Betriebs GmbH announced on Tuesday. There was an increase of around 6.5 percent in scheduled traffic and a decrease of around 3.6 percent in freight in tons after the record year 2023.

Optimism for the new year
In view of these figures and the flight submissions received so far for the summer flight schedule, Graz-Thalerhof is expecting another positive development for 2025. Managing Director Wolfgang Grimus saw the figures as evidence of a continuing strong desire to travel in the private sector. At the same time, more and more foreign holidaymakers are coming to Styria by air. Business travelers are still rather cautious.

There are seven scheduled destinations in the 2025 summer program: Berlin, Zurich and Düsseldorf (five times a week each), Frankfurt (27 times) and Munich (20 times), Hamburg (four times) and the central domestic hub Vienna (20 times).

New destinations in Turkey
The 16 vacation flight destinations include Antalya, Brač, Calvi on Corsica, Heraklion on Crete, Hurghada, Karpathos, Kefalonia, Corfu, Kos, Larnaca and Las Palmas/Gran Canaria (until the end of April and from the beginning of October). Palma de Mallorca will be directly accessible from Graz from Easter, with around 30 more departures planned than in 2024. New single-flight destinations include Dalaman in Turkey, Malta, Palermo, Paphos in Greece and the Latvian capital Riga.
