Carrie Underwood sings at Trump’s inauguration

Country singer Carrie Underwood ("Before He Cheats") will perform at the inauguration of future US President Donald Trump. The 41-year-old will sing the song "America the Beautiful" next Monday in Washington, Trump's team announced.

Underwood won the fourth season of the casting show "American Idol" (the US equivalent of "Deutschland sucht den Superstar") in 2005 and is now one of the best-known female country musicians in the USA. In the past, however, she has rarely spoken out on political issues and has not publicly supported any candidates.

At Trump's first inauguration in 2017, the star line-up was limited. The national anthem was sung by singer Jackie Evancho, who made a name for herself on the casting show "America's Got Talent". The inauguration of US President Joe Biden in 2021, on the other hand, was attended by celebrities. Back then, megastars Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez performed.

Republican Trump has had problems finding support in the show business in the past. At the Republican party convention in Milwaukee last summer, for example, rock rapper Kid Rock performed. His Democratic opponent Kamala Harris, on the other hand, was able to enjoy a lot of celebrity support during the election campaign - she was able to count on musical support from Beyoncé and Pink. Superstar Taylor Swift also supported Harris, but did not perform for her.
