Carinthian police become lifesavers in Styria

A Carinthian police team probably saved the life of a missing person in Styria on Sunday night. It was minus 8 degrees Celsius that night!

A 38-year-old man probably owes his life to the Carinthian police. A search operation was launched for the missing man at around 9 pm. "The mother filed a report because her son had not returned home to Maria Lankowitz", according to the Styrian police.

A large contingent of emergency services - including fire departments, search dogs and rescue services - set out in search of the man. But there was no trace of him. "Unfortunately, it wasn't even possible to locate his cell phone because he had left it at home," says the police officer.

But to make sure they didn't lose any time, the Styrian police asked their colleagues from Carinthia for help. "The Flir helicopter in Klagenfurt is equipped with a thermal imaging camera," the police officer continues. The team from Carinthia set off immediately.

We are glad that the Carinthians lent us a helping hand. Thanks to the thermal imaging camera that the police helicopter in Klagenfurt is equipped with, the man was found more quickly.

The good news came at around 11.30 pm. The missing man could be spotted from the helicopter in the area of the Spengerkogel in the border region of Carinthia. Because it was below zero, the emergency services did not think twice and landed the helicopter.

Because the person was severely hypothermic, the helicopter landed immediately and provided first aid.(Bild: Polizei Kärnten)

"Due to the obviously hypothermic condition, the crew decided to land, immediately took the person into the helicopter and handed them over to the rescue service in the valley." The 38-year-old was brought home unharmed.
