Collision on toboggan run: thigh broken

Several German holidaymakers were involved in a serious tobogganing accident in the Tyrolean Außerfern on Friday evening. There was a fatal collision on a run in Ehrwald - two young women suffered injuries, one of them a fractured femur.

The serious tobogganing accident happened at around 8.15 pm. "After two young people aged 16 and 17, who were tobogganing together, stopped due to the situation, two following tobogganists (aged 13 and 22) crashed into their toboggans," the police report states.

Broken leg and collarbone injury
The 17-year-old teenager suffered a fractured femur. After first aid at the scene of the accident, she was brought down to the valley and then taken to Reutte District Hospital by ambulance. The 22-year-old sustained injuries to her collarbone. She was taken to a local surgery for further examination.

According to the police, everyone else involved escaped with a scare and remained uninjured.

More than 2000 injured in accidents
Unfortunately, tobogganing accidents are a daily occurrence in winter. Every year, around 2,200 injured people have to be treated in hospital in Austria. According to the Austrian Road Safety Board (KFV), that's around twelve injuries per day during the tobogganing season.
