Pedestrian fatally injured by drunk driver

A serious accident occurred on Wednesday evening in Knittelfeld, Styria: a drunk driver of a small truck ran over an unknown pedestrian, the woman died shortly afterwards in hospital. The police are now urgently looking for witnesses.

At around 6.50 pm yesterday, Wednesday 8 January, a 59-year-old man from the Murtal district was driving a small truck in Knittelfeld in Marktgasse in the direction of the train station. According to his own statements, a pedestrian at Marktgasse 7, who had previously been using the sidewalk, suddenly crossed the road.

The man was unable to brake in time, as a result of which the woman was hit by the vehicle and thrown to the ground. After first aid, the unidentified woman was taken to hospital in Judenburg with indeterminate injuries. However, the patient died just a few hours later. A breathalyzer test carried out on the driver of the vehicle revealed a moderate level of alcoholization.

Relatives filed a missing person's report
On Thursday night, an 83-year-old woman from the Murtal district was reported missing at Knittelfeld police station. Investigations revealed that the missing person was the fatally injured pedestrian. An autopsy was ordered.
