School caretaker fell from ladder: helicopter operation!

A serious accident occurred at an elementary school in Weiz/Anger in eastern Styria on Wednesday. A school caretaker fell from a ladder during maintenance work and was seriously injured.

A 44-year-old school caretaker was carrying out maintenance work on one of the ceiling lights on Wednesday afternoon. For this purpose, he needed an assembly ladder, which was partially supported on the stairs.

While he was working at a height of around five meters, part of the ladder suddenly slipped off the stairs. The man fell and hit the concrete floor.

Witnesses kept an eye out and immediately set the rescue chain in motion. When the emergency services arrived, the school caretaker was responsive but not oriented in terms of time or location.

Artificial deep sleep
The emergency doctor diagnosed serious injuries, the man had to be put into artificial deep sleep on site and was transferred to Graz Regional Hospital by rescue helicopter. The possibility of third-party negligence can be ruled out.
