Owner surrenders Rottweiler after attack on child

On New Year's Day, a dog attack shocked the small community of Kirchberg ob der Donau: a Rottweiler reportedly bit a seven-year-old girl to death. The owner has now voluntarily given up his four-legged friend. The man is also being investigated for negligent bodily harm.

The Rottweiler bit a girl from the neighborhood in Kirchberg ob der Donau in the shoulder, upper arm and lower leg on Wednesday. The seven-year-old was immediately taken to the Kepler University Hospital in Linz after the dog attack. After an operation, she is still in the normal ward there.

Municipality and BH decide
What exactly happened to the Rottweiler - the owner's daughter (10) was carrying out training exercises with the four-legged friend behind the house at the time of the attack - must be clarified by the Rohrbach district authority and the municipality. If the worst comes to the worst, euthanasia may be ordered. In any case, it is already clear that the owner will give up his pet voluntarily.

In the meantime, the police are investigating the dog owner for negligent bodily harm. This is standard procedure in such cases, according to the regional police headquarters.
