Around two months after the tragic death of One Direction star Liam Payne, his ex-girlfriend has got engaged. Sophia Smith made the happy news public on Instagram.

Liam Payne was in a relationship with Sophia Smith from 2013 to 2015. The two knew each other from their childhood together in Wolverhampton, UK.

However, their love fell apart because their lives were too different, as Payne once explained in an interview with The Sun. "Being on tour and away from her all year was so hard. We spent too much time apart." Sometimes it's better "not to do what your heart wants, but to do what's best for her".

"A million times yes"
Around two months after the tragic death of the former One Direction singer, the 30-year-old influencer posted a beautiful message on Instagram. "A million yeses," Smith wrote in a black and white video showing her boyfriend James Bridgwood's marriage proposal.

In the clip, Smith can be seen in her pyjamas on the floor of an empty room covered in rose petals. Her boyfriend kneels in front of her and holds a jewelry box in his hand. Next to him are two champagne glasses and a bottle.

Christmas engagement
The moment Birdgwood opens the jewelry box, Smith puts her hands to her face in surprise and then beams with happiness. As the influencer writes in her post, the engagement took place on Christmas Day.

Sophia Smith and James Bridgwood have been together since 2022. They have a daughter together, Angelina, who can also be seen in the cute clip.

Liam Payne died on October 16, 2024, after the singer fell from the balcony of his hotel in the Argentinian capital Buenos Aires. Traces of alcohol and drugs were found in the 31-year-old's blood.
